You probably don’t know what a PWA is? In short – it is a very welcome replacement for Apple, Google and Microsoft Store “apps”. People will no longer have to download apps from these “stores”, to install on their devices! Instead you will be able to install a PWA directly from a normal link.
Currently most available PWAs are little more than flattened versions of websites. They install on your device as you visit a webpage and have very limited value. But what we are producing with XPOR PWAs is something else and will revolutionise web based services!
Our No Code platform provider, XPOR, has recently incorporated the creation and management of PWAs into the platform. These PWAs are complete with all the power we use for XPOR website applications. For example, one of our clients has a secure service for a datasheet lookup service, complete with various supporting functions. Using XPOR we have first replicated what they had previously, then replaced it with the PWA version.
Completely NoCode!
Where is this all going?
As our first venture into PWAs using XPOR, we have been left wondering about the direction of the internet! Websites are served from a web server. In our case the webserver also handles the database. So, people visiting the website are provided with the web page and data to populate the page - plus any associate script for buttons etc. After that, the website and user are communicating to-and-fro with actions and responses.
In the case of the XPOR PWA, when the user clicks the link, the whole thing is installed on their device, from the website. So all the webserver now needs to do is manage the PWA (e.g. is this user / PWA still valid?) and keep the data up to date – new releases, modifications, deletions. The website (and its connection) are doing a fraction of the work as a PWA!
We have another two more PWA projects in the pipeline, on of which will revolutionise the sector it is planned for.
We’ll keep you up to date!
PWAs move the website to the users device – (PC / tablet and even phone) – where they run as part of the browser used to download them. This means, all that the webserver now has to do is feed the device with data for it to run.
For businesses this benefit is huge! To list a few (quoted from divante.com)
- no middleman involved in the app download & installation
- independence in the app update process
- undisturbed digital journey with weak or non-existent connectivity
- short loading time, even in traffic peaks
- higher user engagement and conversion rates
- support in search results (thanks to mobile-first approach)
- seamless onboarding from social channels (Instagram, etc). and higher marketing ROI
- decreased Cost of User Acquisition (CAC)
- increased cross-platform conversion
- all-in-one processes of development, updates and product information
